Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Son of legendary boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Sr, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has ditched former promoter Bob Arum, who runs boxing promotion company Top Rank, and has signed with adviser Al Haymon. Haymon is best known for advising undefeated pound for pound kingpin Floyd Mayweather. Chavez Jr is entering the prime years of his career at age 28, and has amassed a professional record of 48-1-1. He is seen as a potential big draw, and could lure fans into buying Pay-Per-View fights in the future.
Bob Arum claims JCC Jr is still under contract, while Chavez Jr claims his contract ended in September. The two sides will enter litigation and more news on this situation will be learned at a future date. Haymon on the other hand has had a much more positive week. Not only did he secure Chavez Jr, but prized welterweight Keith Thurman turned down a multi-million dollar contract from Jay-Z's Roc Nation Sports, which recently entered into the boxing promotion world. Thurman is another fighter with a bright future ahead of him and is currently advised by Al Haymon. It remains to be seen if Haymon fighters will ever fight against Top Rank fighters again in the future, as the two sides have not co-promoted a fight in years. For the sake of the sport, fans can only hope that the sides will eventually settle their differences and begin to work together on future fight cards.
